Pearl jewelry has shot to the top of the news recently, as Calvin Klein and his ex-wife decided to sell three pieces of famous natural-pearl and diamond jewelry. These lovely pieces, one which is a 14-inch necklace with 28 natural pearls, once was owned by the Dutchess of Windsor.

The pieces will be sold by auction at Sotheby’s in New York in December 2007. Estimates of the collection’s worth goes as high as $3.1 million. Klein originally paid $733,000 for the pieces at a Sotheby sale in 1987.

The pearls in this Windsor collection are from 16.8 to 9.2 mm in size and are completed by an oval clasp set with two emerald cut diamonds with a weight of 2 carats. There also are fancy shaped diamonds weighing 1 carat, which is bordered by 20 small round diamonds weighing .70 carat.

Other Klein pearl jewelry offerings at the upcoming auction will include a pearl and diamond pendant by Cartier and a pair of pearl earrings by Van Cleef & Arpels.

As can be seen with the estimated value of the Windsor pearls, natural pearls have appreciated significantly in value in the last 20 years. In April, the two-strand Indian “Baroda” pearl necklace brought $7.1 million at Christie’s International New York. This set a world record for natural pearl jewelry.

The premium prices and great fame of these particular pearl jewelry pieces highlight the high place pearl jewelry has in our consciousness. There are many outstanding places to purchase pearl jewelry. Some of the most famous types of pearls include Tahitian pearls and freshwater pearls.

Tahitian cultured pearls are a dramatic black color that comes from the black lips of the oyster. They are normally referred to as black pearls. However, the color of Tahitian pearls can range from graphite to beautiful metallic silver.

The beauty and high value of natural pearls makes it assured that a famous collection of these prized jewels will make headlines again soon!

article written by Sarah Baltic.

By: Jackson Dylan

On Dancing with the Stars this week (Oct. 20) Julianne Hough and her partner performed a high spirited dance, the jitterbug. Julianne was outfitted as an adorable aproned housewife complete with a double strand of pearls around her throat and multiple strands of pearls on her wrists and finished off by lovely pearl stud earrings.

Will you be the next to follow this latest fashion trend? It seems these lovely gems are a regular feature of the show. On the Sept. 29 episode host Samantha Harris was wearing an amazingly beautiful Tahition Pearl and multi color sapphire cuff bracelet valued over $56k. Choosing the Right Pearls for You. Following the latest jewelry fashion trend, people are returning to one of the oldest precious gems… the ever stylish, classy PEARL.

Pearls are showing up everywhere from brides walking down the aisle, to graduations….to everyday occasions. The much sought after actress Angelina Jolie has been photographed wearing pearls to movie premiers and quiet days picking up her kids from school. She creates a striking effect, as do most women, wearing simply a pair of pearl studs and a string of lustrous, classy pearls.

Choosing the right pearl for you to get the Angelina effect of classic beauty involves factors such as your age, your skin tone, and the use of the pearls. Pinkish pearls compliment fair skin tones with bluish undertones. White, ivory and golden pearls compliment darker skin with yellow undertones. White pearls with a bright silver overtone look good on a “winter” as do many of the grey, silver, and pewter colored Tahition pearls. If you are younger, shorter length necklaces should be opted for as they emphasize your youthful face.

One of the newer trends for this season, however, is being worn by Sarah Jessica Parker and is seen as a statement necklace, which is a very long pearl necklace worn with a sweater or t-shirt. More mature women might prefer a longer necklace to accentuate their classiness and make a statement. The size of the pearls may also be a consideration…..smaller sized pearls are great for lengthier necklaces while larger pearls look fabulous in shorter lengths. Younger girls may look great in a short strand of smaller size pearls, but a more mature figure will look better in pearls that are at least 7mm in diameter.

There is such a variety in this years pearl trends! Some of the trendy colors this season are chocolate brown pearls, khaki and pink….look for them. You will love how this future investment will make you feel like you are dancing with the pearls…I mean….stars.

hing about pearls that make them different from all the other jewelry is that they retain their original form, color and appearance. Other types of precious stones like gems, diamonds, sapphires, etc can be crafted into other shapes and forms but not pearls. Pearls have that classical elegant quality and there is little need to make any attempt to change that. One just have to learn how to make use of this unique quality in pearls to enhance the visual appearance.

If you pick up a fashion magazine today, and start looking for the latest pearl fashion trends, chances are you’ll start to see them everywhere. That’s because as far as pearls are concerned, they do not not picky. They can be compatible with almost any type of clothing, and are certainly compatible with all ladies. Find that hard to believe?

When it comes to fashion, something is always in, and something is always out. What is in today, may be out tomorrow, or what is out today, may be revived tomorrow. And that’s how fashion works. But due to the pearl’s classic, pure and innocent looks, pearls are always the in thing. Consider the many different ocassions. There are people who want to look sporty during summer, elegant during evening balls, professional when attending meetings, and the pearl is always a good companion, despite the diverse occasions. Modern ladies are sophisticated, have good tastes, and this is fast paced society, they certainly need jewelry that’ll fit well into their busy lives. And in that respect, pearl jewelry beats all the other types of jewelry hands done.

For example, if you want to look loud but at the same time appear elegant, you may want to choose to wear a pearl necklace with multiple strands of pearls. Due to the sheer number of pearls on the necklace, it’s almost impossible for anyone to miss to necklace. But if you just want to look simple and classic, choose to wear a pair of dangling pearl earrings, with each earring having just a single shiny pearl; or choose to wear a string of pearls around the neck that will cover the bare area around your neck. In this case, the pearls shouldn’t be too large in size.

You also see that pearls come in many different sizes and certainly in many different colors. This makes it possible for you to pick the most appropriate pearl jewelry to match your outfit. In addition, pearls also go very with other forms of accessories like pendants, plates, and chains – and there are literally thousands and thousands of different designs that you can choose from. So never assume that just because pearl jewelry has the classic look, it has to be boring. There is enough variety to suit the whims and fancies of any princess!

So you see, there’s something for everyone. If you are just starting to explore the world of pearls, you may wish to study some recent fashion trends and try out some pearl jewelry for yourself. Seeing it, and wearing it, are two every different experiences, so you must certainly be bold enough to wear them. As your pearl collection grows, so will your knowledge and maturity. Once you have attained the maturity to pick the right piece of pearl jewelry for any particular ocassion, perhaps it’s time to be a fashion icon instead of simply a fashion follower. And more importantly, have fun with dolling yourself up with your brand new pearl collection!

By: Gen Wright

Hanadama pearls are popular among people as they are in good shape, color and fall and can also be used to make necklaces, earrings and bracelets too. People should be aware of the nacre of a pearl before you buy. The nacre layer is produced by a pearl oyster, which covers the pearl 'the kernel and experts feel that s better to have your pearls with thicker thickness of about 0.4m m. Pearls of Hanadama fully meet these criteria because they have 0.4mmy of pearl natural pearl production is 0.6m m. These pearls are also known as the flower and beads are considered very high quality pearls that make them one of the most popular variety. The factors that determine the quality of the pearl are luster, nacre thickness, color, innuendo, roundness and freedom from surface imperfections. This is true regardless of size, although the size is the main factor in the rarity, and therefore value of any pearl. Hanadama pearls are generally very similar to the Akoya pearl. There is only a two percent difference between these two pearls. These pearls are evaluated and certified by the laboratory science of pearl in Tokyo, and must be accompanied by a certificate of identification. These pearls come in limited sources, not only because the beads themselves are so rare, but also to build a filament, many pearls are to be matched for size, lusture The color and thickness of the nacre. While there are marks of pearls, as well as highly – regarded jewelers who put pearls Hanadama of high quality only to find the pearls of rare quality of this brand at most retailers due to scarcity. These pearls are high quality Akoya. Consequently, the beads have Hanadama are similarly over-rated most precious little quality aljofaran. The pearl of hanadama is usually a type of Akoya pearls. Hanadama of pearls are certified by the Japanese science laboratory pearls. So there is no doubt about the quality of these pearls because the certification is provided only if they fullfill all quality factors. In the science lab from Japan Hanadama pearls are tested through the test of exposure. Is usually used to determine the thickness of the nacre. If the pearl resolves the bulk standard certifies otherwise will be rejected. But this is not the only method available to prove the quality of the pearls of Hanadama. The method can also be used as a method is known fibroóptico. Â Hanadama pearls are better in quality and Hanadama pearls are more popular among people who are fond of the pearl jewelry.

Fashion

Pearls: the name brings out the image of the shinning white necklaces and earrings endorsed by the English and Rajput kings and queens with grace. During the formation of the cultured pearls, the desired shades of colors are added to the water and thus resulting in the pearls of the desired colors. Sometimes even rare color of pearls can be produced by this method which may vary from lavender to pink and red.

Colorful pearls are rare and expensive as well and thus they demand proper care and handling to make them last for a long time and add to the beauty of the person. For this the pearls should be protected from direct contact with the perfume and hair sprays ads well as from other cosmetic items.

Whether you are buying a gift for someone else or buying a piece of jewelry for yourself, there are always some types of pearl jewelry that will be ideal for you. That is because there is a wide variety of pearl jewelry to choose from – freshwater pearls, salt water pearls, cultured pearls, natural pearls, drilled pearls, and more. If you are considering buying a gift, wish pearls may be the perfect choice.

Wish pearls as gifts

First of all, what are wish pearls? Wish pearls are simply pearls that allow wishes to come true. As pearls are elegant pieces of jewelry, suitable as classy gifts, many people give pearls away to express their well meaning intentions. And the best meaning of intentions come in the form of desire for the wishes of the intended recipient to come true. Thus the label “wish pearls”.

Wish pearls can come in many different types of packages. They may come in transparent boxes, cans or even jewelry kits. They are, after all, intended to be given away as gifts. And gifts can come in many different attractive packages to make them look nice and presentable. Your job, as the giver, is to find something that the intended recipient would love to own. That, in itself, is a wish come true.

But perhaps you are looking for something to add to your jewelry collection. In that case, consider the black pearls.

Black pearls as part of your jewelry collection

Black pearls, are similar to other forms of pearls, except that they are completely black in color. This unique characteristics give the black pearl its mysterious aura. There is something to be desired, some secret to be revealed. When worn, black pearls give the wearers a mysterious and strangely attractive look. It can be both a symbol of fun or a symbol of class. Due to its unique color, black pearls are often matched up with light colored clothing. This brings out the contrasting colors of the pearls and the clothing.

Like all other pearls, black pearls naturally look simple and elegant – especially those that are perfectly round. They can be cultured or natural. Natural black pearls are very rare, and therefore, compared to cultured black pearls, they are also noticeably more expensive.

But price aside, the main reason why so many people are looking to buy black pearls to add to their private collection is because black pearls offer another realm of possibilities that other colored pearls cannot offer. Besides the characteristics mentioned above, the black pearl remains as one of the most versatile piece of jewelry, capable of matching a wide variety of clothing, including fall or winter collection wear.

Finally, be reminded that pearl jewelry can come in such a wide range of designs and patterns that they can dazzle anyone. They can go in bracelets, necklaces, sit alone as a single pearl, or stranded together in strands, and present themselves in many different forms. Black pearls are no exception. So add them to your pearl jewelry collection, just as you would add to your current collection of designer wear.

Pearls that are harvested from mussels, found in fresh waters are called freshwater pearls . The production of these pearls is mostly exclusive to China . Japan and the US are also into its production but on a limited basis.

Freshwater pearls are hardly round or even close to it. They come in a varying range of shapes that includes rice, drop, button, oval, semi-round, baroque and round. They are found in different colors and hues such as red, yellow, silvery white, blue, green, purple, cream, bronze, copper, salmon, pink, lavender and brown. Among the common ones are the white pearls whereas, lavender, purple roses and pastel pinks are the rare and the expensive ones. Genetics, water quality, mussel species and the situation of the pearl inside the shell determines the actual color of the pearl.

The value of freshwater pearls is dictated by its color, shape, and quality, degree of translucency, luster and texture. Pearl farms mix a little quantity of metal in the water to affect the color of the pearls.

Even though the Japanese freshwater pearl industry has almost expired, it still commands special historical importance. It was the country that started the cultivation of freshwater pearls using the Biwa pearly mussels of Lake Biwa . The Tennessee pearl farm also demands historic significance, as it is the only producer of freshwater pearls outside of Asia . China has become the only commercial manufacturer of freshwater pearls. It generated approximately 1500 tons of pearls in 2005 from the Triangle Shell Mussels and several other hybrids.

The Chinese began the grafting process by choosing an appropriate mussel donor and splitting a shred of tissue from the mantle. This shred of tissue is then divided into 3mm piece. These pieces are handed over to a technician who executes the procedure. The technician makes little openings on the upper valve of another mussel, and put in the tissue portion. After many numbers of grafts have been carried out, the mussel is turned over, and the method is repeated again on the other side of the valve.

The pearls are taken to a first stage factory right after harvesting. This factory cleans and sorts the pearls depending on the size after which they are considered ready for processing. The pearls are then pre-treated in a cold and warm solution of chemicals and bleached. After bleaching, the drilling takes place and then the polishing with a blend of wax and cornmeal. And thus they become wholesale ready.

The sponsor describes in detail about Pearls on his website. His observation on Freshwater Pearls can be found on his website, where you could also purchase these products.

By: Pattrickjohnson

Tahitian pearls are commonly known as “black” pearls. They are well-known for their sparkling, somewhat metallic colors which is only one of its kinds among the saltwater cultured pearls. These pearls embody natural beauty. They display a perfect elegance of luxury and perfection. They are found in the deep turquoise waters of Polynesian lagoons. For two years, it develops its perfect shape and colors in the womb of black lipped oyster shell.

Only a small number of oysters survive to produce Tahitian pearls, this makes them rarer than any other type of pearls. Each Tahitian pearl is very unique; it is not easy to find several of it with the same size. Pearls of this kind which has a perfectly round shape with a flawless surface and remarkable shine are considered as those of highest quality. Sizes of these pearls range from 9 mm to 12 mm.

Tahitian pearls amazingly create various shades. These various shades are similar to a light which is refracted as it passes through a prism; the pearl layers act as a prism. This results to the creation of several colors as that of the rainbow. Usually, the darker the Tahitian pearls are, the more precious they become. But aside from black, this type of pearl magnificently displays a variety of other colors of royalty as well. Its basic colors are black, blue, brown, gray and green. Tahitian pearls are available too in a variety of combinations of overtone colors such as blue, gold, peacock green, pink, reddish purple and silver. Some of its other colors may range from parchment to lemon, to a golden-orange. The most sought after colors of these pearls are black, peacock green and cobalt blue.

Jewelry made of Tahitian pearls is elegantly perfect. Jewelries such as necklaces, pearl earrings, pearl pendants, can be made of these pearls. Pearls of size ranging from 9 mm to 11 mm are perfect for a petite woman; whereas pearls with size ranging from 11 mm to 12 mm simply creates a bold statement.

By: Roberto Luongo
